OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND | By Arlo Hemphill

In honor of April Fools Day, we’d like to share this fantastic image of one of the Mid-Atlantic’s most sly pranksters.  The sand devil Squatina dumeril, also know as the Atlantic angel shark, is a clever master of disguise.  Home to the soft sediments of the Mid-Atlantic Bight, this shark’s camouflage and deceptive ways make it truly one with the ocean floor.  The small predator makes its living by ambush attack, feeding on unsuspecting fish and squid that wander too close, fooled by this devil’s disguise.  When the sand devil plays April Fools it seems someone’s going to become dinner.
